The overpass for pedestrians & persons with disabilities

THE OVERPASS FOR PEDESTRIANS & PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES CATEGORY: CONCEPTUAL ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN LOCATION: MOJKOVAC, MONTENEGRO

Conceptual architectural design of the overpass represents a multifunctional facility, which is designed in a manner to be at its service for both citizens and tourists.

Considering the fact that Montenegro represents a tourist destination, which is equally rich in extraordinary mountain and coastal areas that are ideal for development of both types of tourist offer, this facility could represent the beginning of modernization of Montenegrin north, which deserves certain dedication in architectural planning and development.

In that sense, the overpass is conceived as multipurpose: tourist attraction – the viewpoint – which provides vista on the surrounding landscape, but also one of the main pedestrian connections between the future sports zone and main town square.

One of the basic features of the facility is modern architecture, which fits in the mountain spirit and town tradition, but simultaneously, it points out the clear aim towards contemporary aesthetics of urban core.

While designing the overpass, the basic idea encompassed designer’s goal to create the main town landmark, which won’t violate the existing appearance in any way, but quite the opposite: it will upgrade it thus creating a memorable image of modern space.

By relying primarily on the needs of the local population and the goal to improve the tourist offer, architecturally-wise, the facility represents some sort of a combination of the area and modern architectural aspirations.

By relying primarily on the needs of the local population and the goal to improve the tourist offer, architecturally-wise, the facility represents some sort of a combination of the area and modern architectural aspirations.

The light facade follows and creates the mountain architectural appearance which draws its inspiration from the „Mojkovac“ hotel and the Monument to Heroes of the Battle of Mojkovac, the symbol of the town and its history.

On the other hand, in architectural sense, the facade made of slats entirely, hides a modern facility, which fulfills the need for modern concepts of a town appearance that haven’t been applied in Mojkovac for a long time, while being necessary for the progress at the level of entire municipality. However, it was taken into account that existing ambiance must not be violated.

The facility consists of two parts: a tower and an overpass. Glass tower cover, considering the fact it represents the choice of a „light” cover for such a massive structure, allows the bystanders to enjoy the vista provided through the facility itself. The tower is connected by an overpass, i.e. bridge, to downtown Mojkovac, to which an access through park with a certain number of benches should be envisaged, with the goal of providing sufficient gathering and seating places.

The facility’s look/appearance is designed with a double purpose: on one hand, if the project were to be realized in near future, this facility could become a recognizing symbol of Mojkovac town in the region and wide, while on the other hand, it could affect the further economic development, since it would be able to send a clear message to young people that it is possible to stay and not migrate and that actions in terms of town modernization have been undertaken, which will, starting in the field of architecture, leave their mark in other areas as well.

Basic functional purpose of the facility is to provide a safe passage for the people to the other side, whereby the viewpoint has been designed as well – with the goal to provide a vista towards the surrounding landscape. The possibility for the people to come outside on the terrace is provided on the second floor. Such attraction provides better view on the panorama of the town and surroundings. Terraces are designed in a way to spatially allow setting of large viewpoint binoculars which would provide more vivid and prettier vista on surrounding areas.

In collaboration with companies RAIng d.o.o. and RG Group from Podgorica, conceptual architectural design of the overpass for pedestrians and persons with disabilities has been donated to Mojkovac Municipality. The position of an overpass has been established based on The Detailed Urban Plan (DUP), and the design was presented to the representatives of Mojkovac Municipality and Directorate of Public Works.

Conceptual architectural design of an overpass for pedestrians and persons with disabilities has been completed in December of 2017 and presented to the representatives of competent institutions in January of 2018.

If competent institutions provide a positive feedback, NRA Atelier will, in collaboration with aforementioned companies, donate the entire technical documentation on the level of Main/Detailed design.
