Quiet by Design: A Night at Studio 315

On September 25, 2025, Studio 315 – NRA Atelier’s headquarters – hosted an event that resonated in more ways than one. Under the title „Quiet by Design“, representatives from Knauf and Xella joined us for an inspiring exchange that went beyond product presentation. Together, we explored a question that touches every home and every resident: Can residential comfort truly exist without acoustic protection?

Noise pollution is often called the invisible stressor of modern life. Unlike smog or litter, it leaves no trace on the street, yet it lingers in our bodies and minds. Studies show that prolonged exposure to noise can affect sleep, concentration, and even cardiovascular health. In cities, where life hums at all hours, silence becomes a rare luxury. Collective housing brings this challenge into sharp focus. Shared walls, stacked floors, and bustling common areas mean that sound travels easily. A neighbor’s footsteps, a late-night conversation, or the rhythm of daily routines can all seep into another household’s private space. Acoustic protection, then is not just a technical detail – it is a cornerstone of dignity, privacy, and wellbeing in residential design.

The event brought together professionals from architecture, construction, and design, all eager to share their perspectives. Conversations unfolded on the picturesque terrace of Studio 315, where the setting sun painted the evening in warm tones. Glasses of wine were raised, laughter punctuated the debates, and the atmosphere reminded us that professional dialogue can be both rigorous and pleasant.

Representatives of Knauf and Xella showcased their latest solutions, but the real highlight was the collective reflection on how materials, design strategies, and awareness can shape quieter, more comfortable living environments. The terrace became a forum where technical expertise met human experience, and where the idea of „quiet“ was treated not as absence, but as presence – of care, comfort, of design intention.

As the night drew to a close, one sentiment stood out: silence is not passive. It is designed, protected, and nurtured. And when achieved, it allows life to unfold with ease. We look forward to the return of warmer days, when Studio 315’s terrace will once again host conversations – perhaps on a different topic, perhaps with a different vibe, but always with the same spirit of curiosity and connection.
