The building materials were carefully chosen to complement the surrounding natural environment. The exterior is elegantly clad in burnt wood, employing the traditional Japanese Yakisugi technique, and incorporates glazing for optimal transparency.
The Yakisugi technique, dating back to the 18th century, involves charring, or carbonizing the wood, followed by cooling, cleaning, and finishing with natural oils.
Regarding glass surfaces, the design incorporates fully closable sliding wooden shutters for safety and weather protection. These shutters provide a physical barrier and shield the glass. Furthermore, they offer complete sun blockage. To complement this and maintain visual connection with the outdoors, a green roof is included. Functionally, the two-story residence features a master bedroom on the upper floor, fully glazed on all sides to create a sense of being both indoors and outdoors.
